She was born a Muslim but has now converted to Christianity.
Not only has she converted to Catholicism, two of her siblings, have also decided to be Catholics.
This is the story of Sis Ayishetu Baba Jacinta of Court 55, Bawku.
“Since childhood, I have always sought to differ from my parents and do something new,” she said in an interview with marshallan.org.
Differing with her parents, especially deviating from Islam to Christianity, was the last thing anyone would think of.
But that was what Sis Jacinta wanted and it did not come easy.
The greatest opposition she faced did not come from her parents but her auntie with whom she stayed.
“My auntie, who is a Catholic, didn’t want me to change for fear that she would be accused by the family of influencing my decision,” she said.
Initiated into the Noble Order in 2012, Sis Jacinta, who is currently a lector at the St Charles Lwanga Parish, Zebilla, believes she did not make a wrong decision by converting to Catholicism.
“As we speak, two of my siblings, Khadija, 15, (Rosemary), and Rafiatu 9 (yet to be baptized), both attend the Catholic Church with me and I am proud they have joined me,” she said.
Currently a student at the Gbewa College of Education, Sis Jacinta also teaches at the Zebilla Bot’s Memorial Junior High School.
Sis Jacinta is the secretary to Court 55, Bawku, and actively takes part in every Marshallan activity.
She has been nicknamed “Zebilla Noble Lady”, although a court is yet to be consecrated there.
Before joining the Marshallan fraternity, she said she used to regret becoming a Catholic due to the pressure from the family.
However, she said members of the Marshallan fraternity had always provided support and encouragement, especially Bro Paul Apanga of Council 46.
“I am honoured to be part of the Order,” she said.
Sis Jacinta appealed to senior brothers and sisters to strive to support the young marshallans and new initiates to grow and “be an inspiration to us all”.
