EDUCATION IS KEY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE – MAREDES

THE Regional Grand Knight of the North Regional Council, Worthy Brother Vitus Ayungayuri, has on behalf of the Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), the NGO wing of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, presented  seven boxes containing Science and Mathematics books to three basic schools in the Tamale Metropolis.

The books were received by Madam Joyce Sarah Sumani, the Acting Regional Manager of the Catholic Education Unit.

The books are to be distributed to Bishop’s JHS, St. Joseph’s JHS “A” and Kanvili R/C School Complex. She expressed joy and profound gratitude to MAREDES for the donation, promising that the books would be put to good use.

Worthy Brother Vitus Ayungayuri stated that the donation was in keeping with the motto of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall namely; Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Service, saying that MAREDES regarded education as an important human development initiative to empower especially, the youth as future leaders of the country, recalling similar donations of mathematical sets to support girl-child education in Science and Mathematics undertaken at Savelugu in 2013, Zabzugu in 2014 and Damongo in 2015.

He stated that apart from these interventions in the education sector, MAREDES similarly donated relief items to flood victims in the Upper East Region in 2014 and the June 3rd 2015 flood and fire disasters victims in Accra and also funded the provision of an oven at the Nazareth Home of God’s Children Orphanage at Sang in the Yendi Diocese among many others. He added that some selected basic schools in Damongo and Yendi would similarly benefit under current the package.

To underline its commitment to the the delivery of quality education, Worthy Brother Vitus Ayungayuri disclosed that in the coming days, MAREDES would sponsor three Mathematics teachers from each of the schools that benefited from the Maths set donations to attend an all-expenses-paid training workshop to enhance their capacities in the teaching of Mathematics and Science.

The donation was witnessed by Respected Lady, Sister Fedelia Benebere, Regional Noble Lady of the North Regional Court, Bro. Gabriel Wussah, the Immediate Past Grand Knight of Council 27, Sister Rachel Issahaku, Noble Lady of Court 102, Bro. Jonas Nemboni, Grand Knight of Council 102 and Bro. Eric Belbaar, Regional Tyler. Also present were Mr. John Atintande, Chairman of the Association of Catholic Head Teachers in the Archdiocese and head teacher of Bishop’s JHS as well as his colleagues, Madam Mary Sunyari and Rev. Bro. Paul Luseni from the two other beneficiary schools as well as pupils from the Bishop’s JHS.
