GOD’S WORD FOR THE DAY – 25TH FEBRUARY 2017

GOD’S WORD FOR THE DAY (based on Catholic Liturgical Readings)

DATE: 25TH FEBRUARY 2017

SATURDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

FIRST READING: Sirach 17:1-15

PSALM: Psalm 103:13-18

GOSPEL: Mark 10:13-16

THEME: BECOME A CHILD

J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the university of California once said, “There are children playing in the streets who could solve some of my top problems in physics because they have modes of sensory perception that I lost long ago.”

We often struggle with simple truths that lead to the Kingdom of God because we allow our adulthood to rob us of our childlikeness. What appears as a mystery for many “adults” is no headache for those who are “childlike in faith”.

One fundamental disposition of little children is that they are teachable; they are ready to explore. They know they do not have it all and are willing to learn something new.

Observing that his disciples were scolding those seeking to bring little children to him, Jesus remarked, “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it” (Mk. 10:14-15).

Childlikeness (not childishness) is a mark of a healthy spirituality. True happiness can be found when we live as children in the presence of God.

PRAYER: Abba Father, give me a heart of a child and let me live joyfully in your presence. Amen

“May the darkness of sin and the night of unbelief vanish before the light of the Word and the Spirit of grace. And may the heart of Jesus live in the hearts of all people” (St. Arnold Janssen).
