SIR KT. BRO. TOBIAS KOFI QUIST
He is a man who does not allow his personal relationship to becloud his judgement on issues.
Sir Kt. Bro. Quist he was initiated into Council 14, Obuasi, on April 2, 1966 and later transferred to Council 10, Accra in 1971. At Council 10, he served on a number of committees including those relating to social and welfare issues. In 1973, he was appointed Assistant Secretary and moved in 1974 as Secretary of Finance, a position he held for two terms.
His impressive performance contributed to his election as Deputy Grand Knight on December 12, 1981 and subsequently the 23rd Grand Knight of Council 10 on December 11, 1982. As Grand Knight, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist championed the establishment of Council 10 library.
In his position later as Grand Advisor, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist played a role in the formation of a new Council in the Western part of Accra which led to the consecration of Council 48, Mataheko of which he was a charter member.
ROLE IN GREATER ACCRA REGION
In his position as the first Regional Secretary of Finance of the Greater Accra Regional Council established on September 9, 1989, calved out from the Eastern Regional Council, he put the Region on a sound financial footing.
In August 1995, Sir Kt. Quist was installed as the 4th Regional Grand Knight of the Greater Accra Region after serving as Deputy Regional Grand Knight in August 1993. However when late W/Bro. Theodore Appiah-Dankwa the 5th Regional Grand Knight joined the Noble Order above, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist had to complete the term of the deceased which ended in August 1999. Five months into relinquishing his seat as Regional Grand Knight, he was installed Past Supreme Knight on January 29, 2000.
Sir Kt. Bro. Quist’s greatest contribution to the Noble Order has been the development of the Junior Order. His first association with the Junior Order started to 1982 when he was appointed as the Organiser of Junior Council and Court of Council 10 and Court 5, 5J, Mirror of Justice and later became Chairman of the Organising committee.
For the records, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist played a lead role towards the consecration of the Junior Order in Council 48, 23J, Mother Most Pure, on September 23, 1989 and later became its Chairman-Organiser. On December 4, 1993, he was appointed Assistant Supreme Youth Co-ordinator. In 2001, when Sir Kt. Bro. Pettie Ossom resigned his office as the first Supreme Youth Co-ordinator, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist took over as Supreme Youth Co-ordinator.
He continued with the project of building a formidable youth wing for the Order. With the able support of his Deputy, Sir Kt. Bro. Naval Capt. J.W.K. Boateng (Rtd.), they instituted measures which enhanced the activities of the Junior Order.
CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Sir Kt. Bro. Tobias Quist continues to play an active role in the Church. He has had a long stint as a chorister at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Obuasi from 1945-1947 and the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Derby Avenue, Sacred Heart Parish, Accra from 1960 -1969. From 1969 to date he has been a parishioner at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church serving in various capacities, among others – Lay Reader/ Chairman of the Choir from 1969-2007, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council 1969-1980, President of the Pastoral Council 1989-1991, Vice Chairman of the Holy Family Akan Kuw and President of the Catholic Men’s Association 2001-2011.
Speaking to The BRIDGE, Sir Kt. Bro. Quist expressed his thanks and appreciation for the platform The BRIDGE has created to highlight the contributions of Jubilee Marshallans. He expressed the hope that other jubilants will provide their profile for publication. He thanked the Chairman and the Editorial Board of The Bridge for giving a new facelift to the Bridge Magazine.
