ACCRA WEST MARKS SIR JAMES MARSHALL DAY

THE parish priest of St Thomas Moore Catholic Church, Achimota, Rev Fr Francis Oteng Bawuah, has called on parents to spend quality time with their families, particularly their children.

He said spending time with the family should not be limited to being at home to be seen but sharing the scriptures that would inspire them to be responsible adults.

Sir James Marshall

Rev Fr Bawuah was preaching at a church service to mark Sir James Marshall Day at the St Sylvanus Catholic Church, Pokuase.

Sir James Marshall, former Chief Justice of the Gold Coast and Nigeria, is credited with the return of the Catholic faith in Ghana in 1880.

In recognition of his work in the growth of the Catholic Church in Ghana, one of the pillars of the Catholic Church in Ghana, the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, named the society to immortalise him.

As part of the church service, the Marshallans presented a cash donation to support the church while the Pokuase branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall honoured the immediate past Supreme Knight, Sir Knight Victor Derx Baffour, and Worthy Bro. Yaw Osei-Poku for supporting the branch.

Blaming children

Rev Fr Bawuah said parents often blamed children for their wayward behaviour, when they should rather be blamed for not raising the children with the word of God.

“We don’t have time for the children and least of all have time to share scriptures. All we are interested in is business and nothing more,” he said.

He said many Christians hardly had time to study the scriptures and only attended Sunday or special services that portrayed them as believers.

Turning to the Marshallans, he reminded them that they had immortalised Sir James Marshall because of the good he did.

He urged them to assess themselves to see if they had lived up to the values of the Marshallan Order.

Regional Grand Knight

The Regional Grand Knight, Worthy Bro. Yaw Osei-Poku, urged members of the Marshallan fraternity to reach out to other areas where there was no Catholic church.

He also urged them to reach out to support the needy and also projects of the church.
