Don’t lose your identity as Marshallans– Apostolic Nuncio

THE Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, the Most Rev Jean Marie Speich, has urged members of Knights and Ladies of Marshall not to lose their identity of Ghanaian origin.
He was particularly happy that the Noble Order was of Ghanaian origin, describing it as very good, as it provided a Ghanaian touch to knighthood.
“Don’t lose your identity. Remain Knights of Marshall of Ghana and let’s go forward withdynamism,” he said.
Courtesy call
The Most Rev Speich was speaking during a courtesy call on him by a delegation of the Knights of Marshall, led by its Supreme Knight, Sir Knight Ekow Paintsil, in Accra on Wednesday, April 8, 2014.
Other members of the delegation were Sir Knight Derx Baffour, Sir Knight Anthony Kemavor, Sir Knight Tony Baffour, Sir Knight Joseph Harlley, Worthy Brother Ernest Amoako-Arhen, Worthy Brother Andy Agyekum, Worthy Brother Albert Salia and Brother Peter Wireku.
Doing well
The Apostolic Nuncio said Marshallans were doing excellently well by not just speaking on issues but also helping members of society.
He encouraged the members of the society to continue with their good works, saying, “It is good that people like you give voice to the work of the church from time to time.”
The Most Rev Speich urged Marshallans to do more for the church and the Ghanaian society, saying, “I wish on behalf of the Pope to thank and congratulate you on what you are doing for the church in Ghana and society.”

Voice of Laity
The Most Rev Speich urged the laity in the Catholic Church to also speak up on issues affecting the Ghanaian society and not always depend on the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference to do so.
He said Ghana needed a strong and visible laity, as they had their own place in the Catholic Church, adding, “We need people who are not afraid but proud to be Catholics and speak to issues in society.”
He said it was important that those societies spoke to the issues more often than the bishops, so that the bishops would be the voice of reason in difficult situations.
Media presence
Most Rev Speich urged the Catholic Church in Ghana to register its presence in the news media with all the good things it is doing for Ghanaians.
He said the church needed to take its communications more seriously by utilising all the media available, such as newspapers, Facebook, websites, Twitter, television and radio.
He described the church in Ghana as a beautiful princess, but said, “We should not be sleeping princesses.”
Visibility
The Apostolic Nuncio said the Catholic Church in Ghana had done a lot and continued to do more for Ghanaians and wondered why the church in Ghana remained in the shades by not effectively communicating its good works, stressing, “We need more visibility in the media.”
He reminded Ghanaian Catholics of the admonition of Christ that people should not light a candle and hide it under a table and said he found it strange that the church in Ghana was not visible in the local media.
Charity
Sir Knight Paintsil said besides its spiritual exercises, the society undertook many charity activities, not only in the church but also in deprived communities and institutions.
“We work to bring up the church fraternity to be more useful, not only to themselves and their families but the country as a whole,” he said.
