Theme: “Upholding the Mercies of God as Marshallans” (Ps 25:10)
Text: “All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of
his covenant” (Psalm 25:10).
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I greet you in the name of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. As we prepare to the celebrate the
great festival of our salvation, I wish to draw your attention to a few thoughts on our calling as
Marshallans. In this season of grace, God offers us the true sacramental elements for our
conversion as catholic knights and ladies. We are being called to make a U-turn to our King,
whose Knights and Ladies we are, with all that we are and have.
My message to you takes it strength from the words of the Psalmist: “All the ways of
the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant” (Psalm
25:10). The whole of Psalm 25 can be described as the ‘elevation of Soul’ of a just man awaiting
God’s pardon and saving intervention. It is a prayer in which traditional elements of the
lamentation mix and blend with those of wisdom reflection. It draws our attention to the
individual lamentation that is marked by a sapiential character.
The Psalmist teaches us about the circumstances in which he is turning to God. He is surrounded
by enemies who are waiting to see him fall. Should this happen, he will be put to shame (25:2b).
But he is confident that it will not happen. Although his faith wavered for a moment when he considered the possibility that God might allow him to be shamed, his memory of who God is
makes it clear that this is impossible: No one whose hope is in you will ever he put to shame. In
his recall he affirms that God is merciful because he does not remember sins, and he is also
upright. He knows that he himself is a sinner, but a sinner who beholds God’s guidance and
instructions. He therefore asks God to teach him his ways, he is clearly referring to teaching him
how to meet the requirements of the covenant between God and his people.
Beloved, let us in this time of grace behold the mercies of God as Marshallans. This is because
Mercy is the very nature of God. Mercy speaks of Gods compassion towards us who are in
misery and in need of divine help. God’s mercy is not and cannot be a temporary mood. No!
Never! Marshallans, because God is merciful, he is ready to relieve the misery of his children.
Feel within the Father’s love for you and seek his mercies. The Father’s mercies flow without
strings attached. No man or woman deserves mercy because he is a polluted sinner. His mercy is
free. As long as he is God, he will be showing mercy, for his mercy endures forever.
Do not let the immensity of your sins and the pressures of this modern world discourage you, for
God’s mercy can pardon all sins, great and small. God’s mercy flows from an infinite fountain.
Let us take our cup of faith in this Lenten season and drink of the waters of mercy that our father
has made available to us.
Have a grace filled season as you go through the various Lenten spiritualities.
Your Humble Servant
