MONTHLY REFLECTIONS FOR JANUARY 2026
WELCOMING AND EMBRACING THE CENTENARY YEAR
Introduction
By the Grace of God, we have entered a new year. It is not just a new year but also a remarkable and significant year in the annals of the Noble Order. In my Christmas Message, I wished you a happy 2026 at a time 2025 was about ending. Thankfully, the good Lord has ushered all of us into this New Year and I wish us all a fulfilling New Centenary Year once again.
Looking back and stepping into the New Year
As we begin the year, it is imperative to reflect on the past and contemplate on what the year holds for us. The year marks new beginnings and gives hope for tremendous possibilities. We strive to establish resolutions and set goals for the New Year. However, we must be mindful that this New Year should be one of reflection, spiritual renewal, and the opportunity to set the tone for the times ahead.
As we surge on into the centenary year, let us pause and reflect on the gift of time and the calling we have all received from the Good Lord within the period. Without doubt, we are part of the history. A hundred years is not just a measure of days and seasons but a testimony of God’s enduring faithfulness and the perseverance of those who walked before us. It is their sacrifices; prayers and unwavering commitment that has made us part of this history.
How do we honour this legacy is the question that stare us at the face? Will we celebrate history or become history makers also for the next generation?
This year therefore firstly invites us to renew our devotion to God and Jesus Christ and let God and Christ remain at the center of all we do. It invites us to engage in a period of reflections, setting the groundwork for personal spiritual revival where we consciously embrace the positive and turn away from the negative. Secondly, the year calls on us to deepen our brotherhood within and the outside world as reflected in our warning. “If you have ill-will towards any brother or any person on earth then do not go to God under any circumstances.” We must therefore strengthen the bond of unity especially amongst us for divided hearts cannot build the lasting and enduring future we desire for our Noble Order. Thirdly, let us embraceour mission as Marshallans. Our families, society, community and the world at large still hunger for truth, love and hope. Let us be the hands and voices that bring these virtues.
As we look ahead, let us remember that the Centenary we are about to celebrate is not the finishing line; it is a new beginning of greater things to come. Let us rise with courage, humility, faith and hope, knowing that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who has been our help in ages past and sustained us for a century will be our guide, our hope for this year and the years to come. Apostle Paul in his letter to the Philippians in Chapter 3 verses 12-15 wrote, “Brothers, I for my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. But just one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what is ahead, I continue my pursuit towards the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling in Christ Jesus. Let us then who are perfectly mature adopt this attitude.”
The year therefore call us to reflect whilst closing an old chapter of 100 years and begin a new chapter for another 100 years.
In making this year a fulfilling year, I urge us all to:
- Sit, pause, notice and embrace the changes the year brings.
- Pay attention to the beauty of the change for our good and that of the Noble Order.
- Be still enough to look for, recognize, appreciate and embrace the good of the change within ourselves.
- Find joy and peace in who we become because of the change and let our light and lives shine and radiate this positive change.
- Take care of ourselves, be gentle with any positive new growth on our lives, and tend to it as the vine keeper tends to his vine.
- Above all, give thanks to God for tending us like precious plants worthy of care and attention.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for your faithfulness through the years and for the privilege of entering this centenary year. Strengthen our hearts and mind to walk in unity, renew our passion for your mission and guide us to be lights in our generation. May our lives honour the legacy of your faithful servants who preceded us and bring glory to your name. We ask this through Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
Thank you and A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.
