FROM THE SUPREME KNIGHT’S DESK
MONTHLY REFLECTIONS FOR DECEMBER 2025
INTRODUCTION
During the month of December as Christmas day draws closer, we can easily find ourselves swept up in the whirl of buying presents, organising parties, decorating the house, preparing food and spending money. Christmas is coming and we have to feel ready. But since the earliest days of the faith, Christians have purposefully taken time before Christmas to focus on the meaning of the coming of Jesus into our world as crucial and spiritual preparation. This is what Advent is about. Advent, as we may have heard or read, is a word that comes from Latin and it means “coming” or “arrival”. God has arrived in our world through the birth of Jesus.
As we enter the third week of the Advent season, we are invited to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus Christ. This journey of anticipation and reflection is a powerful reminder of God’s love and promise. Permit me to reflect with you, some few points:
A SEASON OF HOPE
Advent is a time of waiting, a sacred season in which the Church prepares to celebrate the birth of the Saviour and to welcome once again the light of Christ into our world. It is a time of hope, and in a world often marked by uncertainty and anxiety, Advent reminds us that hope is not naive optimism, but a deep trust in God’s faithfulness, a hope that takes root even in darkness and grows silently towards the light. Advent is a time of hope, a time to rekindle the flame of faith in our hearts. In the darkness, a light shines bright – Jesus Christ, the Messiah. As we await His birth, we’re reminded that hope is not just a feeling but a virtue that sustains us.
As we journey through this season, we do so in the spirit of the 2025 Jubilee: Pilgrims of Hope. The Jubilee invites us to recognise that hope is not only a personal gift, but a shared calling: to be signs of God’s mercy, to build peace and to open paths of reconciliation and renewal. To be pilgrims of hope means walking together with open eyes and hearts, looking for signs of God’s mercy and justice manifesting themselves in our midst. In the quiet of Advent, we listen for the whisper of new beginnings. Our reflection offers a moment to pause and pray, to notice where hope is already sprouting: in our communities, in acts of compassion, in the quiet perseverance of faith. As we wait with hope during this Advent, let us learn anew to trust in the God who makes all things new and to walk as pilgrims toward the dawn of renewal.
A CALL TO CONVERSION
Advent calls us to conversion, to turn away from sin and head towards God’s love. It is an opportunity to reflect on our lives, to examine our hearts, and to renew our commitment to follow Jesus.
A TIME OF PREPARATION
As we journey through Advent, let us prepare our hearts by:
- Reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas.
- Practicing acts of kindness and charity.
- Deepening our prayer life.
SHORT PRAYER
Father almighty, as we journey through Advent, grant us the gift of hope and peace. May we know Your love and presence in our lives. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
