Sakumono Marshallans support Kressner Orphanage

MEMBERS of the Sakumono branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall have donated assorted items to inmates of the Kressner Handmaids Orphanage.

Led by the Grand Knight of Council 89, Bro. Michael Botse-Baidoo and the Noble Lady of Court 85, Sis. Esther Tia, the marshallans presented items such as mattresses, bed sheets, bags of rice and toiletries.

Bro Botse-Baidoo explained that the Marshallans were motivated by the motto of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall – Unity, Charity, Fraternity and Service – to always assist the needy.

He said it was in line with that the Sakumono Marshallans chose the Orphanage to donate the items as part of their Easter charity.

He expressed the hope that other societies and philanthropists would emulate the gesture of the Marshallans to support the Orphanage.

The mother of the home, Rev Sis Doris Dominica Opoku, thanked the society for the support.

She explained that although it was an orphanage, it sought to provide education to needy children as well.

The Orphanage

The orphanage was inaugurated in March this year to serve the needs of the people of Ardeyman-Otaden in the Amasaman District.

The facility was funded by the Rotary Club of Otterndorf-Land in Germany, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra, at about $70  0,000.

It consists of a 60-bed living quarters, a four-classroom block, a social centre, a pantry, recreational rooms, caregivers’ rooms and a convent for the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) sisters.

The orphanage will cater for children of HIV/AIDS patients, the less privileged and vulnerable in society, as well as orphans and be managed by the HDR.
