Formation programme for Sunyani Marshallans

THE Sunyani Diocese of the Catholic Church is putting up a formation programme to educate the Knights and other lay leaders to enable the trainees be abreast with the teachings of the church.

Most Rev Matthew Gyamfi, the Bishop of Sunyani, who announced this, said a number of priests and professors grounded in theology, scripture and other church related issues, were being put together to start the programme.

He was speaking at dinner organized by Council 29 and Court 15, Sunyani for the Grand Lady, Most Respected Lady Margaret Yirenkyi and the Supreme Knight, Sir Kt Ekow Paintsil during a visit to the diocese on the weekend of March 13-15, 2015.

The Supreme Knight was accompanied by W/Bro Albert Salia, Supreme Information Technologist, W/Bro Charles Cobb, Assistant Supreme Propagandist for Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions while the Grand Lady led a team including the Grand Secretary, RL Sis. Christiana Buadu, Brong Ahafo Regional Noble Lady, RL Sis. Gertrude Kunfa, and Sis. Theresa Osei Bonsu, Regional Auditor of Ashanti-Denkyira Court.

Most Rev Gyamfi explained that as the cream of the church, it was important that they (Knights) became abreast with the teachings of the church.

That way, he said, the knights would also be more confident in things relating to the church hence the formation programme in theology, scripture and church matters.

Marshallans are dependable

Most Rev Gyamfi described Marshallans in the three dioceses of the Brong Ahafo Region as dependable tools who come to help the church in times of need.

“I wish to put on record the wonderful support from the Marshallans to the three dioceses in the region.  We have them as dependable tools in the church and they have help in all ways not only in the societies but in the church,” he said

He said the dedication of the Marshallans in the region as extraordinary and often undertook their assignments gently and quietly.

Temple Project

Most Rev Gyamfi said he had to stop the construction of a temple project by the Marshallans in Sunyani because he found the plan as too modest to be sited on a prime land.

He said he had advised the leadership of the Marshallans in Sunyani to come forward with new design that would also provide facilities for rental to serve as a source of income generation.
