Bro. Godwin Quashigah Laid to Rest

Burial took place in Woe near Keta in the Volta Region of Bro. Godwin Joseph Kosi Quashigah, PGK of Council No 64 (Teshie-Nungua) on Saturday, July 4, 2015. The burial was preceded by a Mass held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Teshie where he was a parishioner. In attendance at the Mass were scores of brothers and sisters from the Tema Regional Council and Court including W/Bro. Paul Agyiri, Regional Grand Knight for Tema, RL Sis. Maud Tamakloe, Regional Noble Lady for Tema, Sir Kt. Bro. J.U. Andoh, Sir Kt. Bro. Wilberforce Bedu-Mensah, Sir Kt. Group Capt. A.A. Awuviri (rtd.), Sir Kt. Bro. Naval Capt. J.W.K. Boateng (rtd.),  and MRL Sis. Sarah Andoh.

 

The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Clement Wilson, parish priest of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

 

Bro. Quashigah was born on January 23, 1944 at Kedzikope-Keta. He attended the Anlo State School in Kedzikpe. Unable to go to secondary school due to financial reasons he took up employment with Electricity Corporation of Ghana. Whilst there he studied privately and earned the GCE ‘O’ Level. He thereafter enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces on June 20, 1963. After 14 years of service he left the Army on the rank of Sergeant.   He later took up a job with Ghana Food Distribution Corporation. After a while he left that employment and set up his own construction company, Delstan.

 

He was initiated into the Noble Order at Council No 64 (Teshie-Nungua) on October 30, 2004. He passed the Lower Degree Examination in 2006 and completed the Mystic Psychology Course in 2007.

 

He was Assistant Secretary of Finance from 2005 to 2007 and Secretary of Finance from 2008 to 2010. He represented the Council on Advisory Board and three important Committees namely Advisory Board, Welfare and Charity, Membership and Publicity Committee.

 

Bro. Quashigah always discharged his duties very diligently. As an Ex-Serviceman, he championed the course of obedience and responsiveness to duty, regular attendance at meetings and preparedness to obey the orders of the Grand Knight and the Church. He played a particularly important role in updating the financial records of Council. He also played a critical role in the formation of the Marshallan Welfare Society (MAWESO).

 

Alongside his commitment to the Noble Order, Bro. Quashigah was  an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Teshie. He was a member of the St. Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council from 2006 to 2010. During that period he was chairman of the Church’s Project Committee. Under his leadership the compound of the Church was paved with designer blocks, a wash room was  put up in the Church  and  water which for many years did not flow in the Church began to flow.  The Church under his leadership also put up a grotto and a magnificent Parish Hall.

 

He was the Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association of the St. Anne’s RC Basic School from 2010 to 2016.

 

For his selfless and dedicated services to the Noble Order and to Mother Church, his brothers in Council No 64 nominated him for a special award. The Greater Accra Regional Council bestowed on him the honour of Best Knight of Council No. 64 for 2009.

 

Having served as a tenth degree brother in the Council for the eight years and contested for the position of Deputy Grand Knight (DGK) twice he was in 2014 elevated to Honorary Past Grand Knight.

 

He breathed his last on earth at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
