Residents of Glefe benefit from health screening

RESIDENTS of Glefe, a suburb of Dansoman were last Saturday provided with a free medical screening by the Dansoman branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall.

More than 800 residents benefitted from the exercise while children were also dewormed.

Besides the free medical screening,  members of the community were also educated on cholera, the responsible use of medicine and the need to visit the hospital regularly.

The exercise, forms part of the society’s charitable activities to deprived and needy communities.

The Grand Knight of the Dansoman Knights and Ladies of Marshall, Bro Dr Henry Awuviri told journalists that it was found out that about 99 per cent of the members of the community were not on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He said the medical outreach programme, therefore, enabled some of the residents to receive free medication to improve their health conditions.

He said water borne disease, malaria, diarrhoea and skin infection were the commonly diagnosed ailments, saying that many of the affected were not aware of their predicaments, hence the need for the organisation to undertake such outreach programmes.

The Noble Lady, Sister Margaret Awumee expressed concern about the nature of the environment in which the people were living and urged the government to come to the aid of the residents.
