POPE Francis has appointed Most Rev Gabriel Kumordji as the new Bishop for Keta – Akatsi.

 

He takes over from Bishop Emeritus Most Rev Anthony Kwame Adanuty, who resigned in 2016.

 

Until today’s announcement, Most Rev Kumordzi, SVD, was the Apostolic Vicar of the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate of the Catholic Church.

He was appointed to the position of Apostolic Vicar on January 19, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI.

 

Bio

Most Rev. Kumordji was born on March 24, 1956 in Accra as the fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kumordji.
After his secondary school education at St. Aquinas school in Accra, he undertook philosophical studies at St Victor’s Major Seminary in Tamale (1976-79) joined the SVD novitiate in 1979 and professed the first vows on September 8, 1980.
Apostolic Vicar Kumordji had a three-year theological study at the Tamale Seminary from 1980-1983 and ordained a priest by Archbishop Dominic Andoh on July 14, 1985 in Accra after completing a one-year pastoral experience in the Sunyani Diocese.2 (3)

 

Keta – Akatsi Diocese

It was carved out of the Keta – Ho Diocese on December 19, 1994 with Most Rev Anthony Kwame Adunuty as its first Bishop.

Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu Bishop of Ho, was appointed the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese when Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev Adunuty resigned on April 7, 2016
