MAREDES is the development wing of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a Catholic friendly society.

The presentation was made through the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) to be distributed to the selected hospitals.

Presentation

Speaking at the  presentation ceremony in Accra, the Board Chairman of MAREDES, Sir Knight Edward Prah, explained that primary consideration of the donation was to reach the poor and improve quality healthcare.

He further said that the equipment were presented to the health facilities because they had the capacity to effectively utilise them.

Mr Prah indicated that MAREDES was building upon its previous efforts in trying to reach out to the needy in different respects, adding that MAREDES had supported more than 5,000 girls in deprived areas in Mathematics education.

Initiative laudable

Receiving the items on behalf of the two institutions, the Clinical Co-ordinator for Community and Institutional Care of the Directorate of Health at NCS, Dr Anita Appiah said the equipment was a blessing to the hospitals.

She explained that the Battor Catholic Hospital was running a health screening project for cervical cancer for 7,000 women.

She, therefore, described the presentation of the Colposcope, the equipment used for screening cervical cancer, as timely as it would provide immense support to the hospital.
