Brothers and Sisters of Council 100 & Court 96 Osu/La, Accra have presented items

worth GHc5,000 inmates of Matthew 25 House in Koforidua.

The presentation was in fulfillment of their annual charity in line with their motto Unity,

Charity, Fraternity and Service.

Items donated by the group which was led by the Grand Knight of Council 100, Bro.

Emmanuel Osei Akuamoah and the Noble Lady of Court 96 Sis. Agnes Tingan, included

bags of rice, maize, gallons of cooking oil, assorted provisions, toiletries and detergents.

Making the donation on behalf of the group, Bro. Osei Akuamoah said the Marshallans

chose Matthew 25 House because of the good work they are doing by assisting persons

living with HIV/AIDS and orphans as well as vulnerable children in and around

Koforidua. He was full of praise for the Director of Matthew 25 House Rev. Monsignor

Alex Bobby Benson of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua and his staff. He expressed the

hope that other groups and organizations would come to the aid of the House.

Sis. Gifty Anna Agbadzi of the Handmaid of the Divine Redeemers (HDR) congregation,

who is in charge of the House, thanked the Marshallans for their wonderful support.

She said that Matthew 25 House, an NGO, was founded by Rev. Msgr. Bobby Benson in

December 2003 to cater for People Living With HIV/AIDS, orphans and vulnerable

children from towns and villages in and around Koforidua.

Currently, the House takes care of 53 PLWHA’s and 65 orphans and vulnerable children.

She explained further that the House pays for anti-retroviral drugs supplied to the

PLWHA’s and pay the school fees of the children as well. It was heartwarming to learn

that since inception, the House has been able to sponsor four students through university,

three through Polytechnic, four through Vocational institutes and one through Training

College. Some of the children are now in senior and junior high schools as well as basic

schools.

Rev. Msgr. Bobby Benson also expressed his gratitude to the group. He bemoaned the

shortage of anti-retroviral drugs and appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency

make the drugs available to help the patients. He informed the Marshallans that the NGO

is currently putting up a hospice in Koforidua, a facility for persons facing end of life

illness where they would receive compassionate care before passing away in dignity. The

group had a one-on-one interaction with the PLWHA’s who shared their experiences and

later paid a visit to the hospice project site, before making the trip back to Accra.
