ACCRA WEST WINS GAR QUIZ COMPETITION

Two juniors from the Accra West Region on Saturday, September 24, 2016 put up a splendid performance to emerge winners in the final of the quiz competition held among the three Marshallan regions of the Greater Accra Region at the Temple of Council No. 37/Court No. 26 (Tema) in Community 8-Tema.

The quiz competition was to select contestants to represent the Greater Accra Region at the National Quiz competition scheduled as part activities to climax the 90th Anniversary Celebration of the Knights of Marshall to be held in Sekondi in November, 2016.

The three regions in the Greater Accra Region which took part in the quiz competition were Accra East, Accra West and Tema. Each region was represented by a junior brother and a junior sister. Accra East was represented by JBro. Michael Owusu Sekyere and JSis. Harriet Morkeh, Accra West by JBro. Blaise Saanuo and JSis. Yanume S. Beipuo, and Tema by Bro. Benjamin Appiah and JSis.  Jennifer Esinam Awunyo

The competition was witnessed by over 200  junior brothers and sisters who came from junior councils and courts within the Greater Accra Region namely  5J ‘ Mirror of Justice’ (Accra), 41J ‘Virgin Most Pure’ (Madina),  73J ‘Queen of Prophets’ (Osu), 79J ‘Mother Most Perfect’ (Adenta) all from Accra East Region; 23J ‘Mother Most Pure’ (Mamprobi), 42J ‘Splendour of Grace’ (Accra Central), 43J ‘Our Lady of Lourdes’ (Dansoman), 75J ‘Queen of Patriarchs’ (Pokuase), 88J ‘Salve Regina’ (New Aplaku) all from Accra West Region;  11J’ Star of the Sea’ (Tema), 44J ‘Mother Most Chaste’ (Teshie-Nungua), and 63J ‘Virgin Most Venerable’ (Sakumono) all from Tema Region.

Also present were 50 organizers from the three regions, the six Regional Youth Coordinators, W/Bro. Thomas Asiedu, Assistant Supreme Council Coordinator responsible for Greater Accra and Eastern regions, RL Sis. Joyce Owusu-Ansah, Assistant Grand Court Coordinator responsible for Greater Accra and Eastern regions. Also present as special guest of honour was Sir Kt. Bro. (Naval Captain) J.W.K. Boateng (rtd.), Immediate Past Supreme Youth Co-ordinator.

Before the quiz competition, a council/court meeting was held presided over by JBro. Anthony Biney, Grand Knight of 11J ‘Star of the Sea’ (Tema).

Rev. Fr. Dennis Opoku, Chaplain of the Tema Regional Council, and Assistant Parish Priest of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Community 8-Tema was the quiz master. He was assisted by Bro. Joseph McClean-Apprey of Council No. 48 (Mamprobi), as Score master, and Bro. Dickson Atsunyo of Council No. 63 (Madina), as Timekeeper.

The quiz master took the contestants through five rounds of questions. The first, on the Holy Bible specifically the Book of Genesis, Chapters 1-58,  second, on St. Luke’s Gospel; third, on Church Doctrine and Sacraments of the Church; fourth, on the Life History of St. Anthony of Padua and Sir James Marshall; fifth, on the History of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall/ Formation of the Adult Councils and Courts, and Supreme Knights/Grand Ladies and current Supreme Council/Grand Court Officers of the Noble Order.

At the end of the five rounds of questions Accra West obtained 108 points to emerged winners, followed by Accra East with 97 points and Tema with 95 points.

Rev. Fr. Dennis Opoku commended the contestants for their spirited performance. He was not happy with the little knowledge shown when it came to questions on the History of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall/Formation of the Adult Councils/Courts and the Supreme Knights/Grand Ladies and current Supreme Council/Grand Court Officers of the Noble Order. He urged the leadership of the Junior Order in the Region and the Regional Grand Knights/Regional Noble Ladies to set up a team to work with the chosen contestants for the Greater Accra Region. He was hopeful that with the necessary preparations the representatives of can bring honour to the Greater Accra Region.

Sir Kt. Bro. (Naval Captain) J.W.K. Boateng (rtd.) assisted by W/Bro. Thomas Asiedu and RL Sis. Joyce Owusu-Ansah, on behalf of the Regional Grand Knights/Regional Noble Ladies of the three regions in the Greater Accra Region, presented awards to all the six contestants.
